We are ready to step in, assess the damage for free, and give you expert advice on the next steps in frozen pipe repair. For those clients who live in cold weather climates, you have the additional worry of a frozen pipe bursting. It doesn’t take much for pipes to freeze overnight, so proper maintenance and care to prevent this from occurring is crucial. Prevention can be key to helping avoid burst pipes during these colder temperatures. We take the time to share each step of our process, helping you understand how we plan to have your home back to normal as soon as possible.

WHY PIPE FREEZING IS A PROBLEM

Water has a unique property in that it expands as it freezes. This expansion puts tremendous pressure on whatever is containing it, including metal or plastic pipes. No matter the strength of a container, expanding water can cause pipes to break.

Pipes that are exposed to severe cold, like outdoor hose bibs, swimming pool supply lines, and water sprinkler lines.

Water supply pipes in unheated interior areas like basements and crawl spaces, attics, garages, or kitchen cabinets.

Pipes that run against exterior walls that have little or no insulation.

WATER LEAKING FROM CEILING OR WALLS

We all know by now that water can be damaging to property. And, when it meets the drywall that makes up your interior walls and ceilings, it not only looks unattractive, but it can damage wallboards enough that they fall to pieces. Now that will give any property owner a headache. But don’t worry, when it comes to water cleanup, Lap Services has you covered. Your ceiling and walls should be a big part of the water damage restoration process. With many types of water damage, moisture soaks into the drywall or even the ceiling. Even worse, your ceiling and walls are often exposed to dust, pet dander, cooking oils, smoke, and other airborne contaminants. Pair these with water, and you’ve got a recipe for disaster.

Trying to resolve this yourself, as the homeowner, can lead to another bigger problem. Mold! This is no time for a DIY project. Your local Lap Services team is trained and certified in this type of water damage cleanup.

A FEW COMMON CAUSES OF CEILING WATER DAMAGE

When water damage transpires in your ceiling, it’s time to call the water damage experts at Lap Services. CEILING LEAKS

Stains, sagging, or peeling paint are signs that there is excess water on your ceiling drywall. Where would this water come from? Roof damage, missing tiles, or blocked gutters are top culprits; others are surplus water from broken pipes or leaks from an upstairs bathroom.

MOISTURE

If your home has too much humidity - especially in the kitchen and bathrooms - your ceilings are more susceptible to mold and mildew stains. If this is the case, install proper ventilation in these rooms.

STRUCTURAL

A crack running the whole length of the ceiling and down a wall is most likely an indication that you have a damaged wall stud or your home has settled improperly. This is a serious issue.

WATER EXTRACTION & DRYING

Multiple complex systems are feeding into your home and these keep everything running smoothly. Your water supply lines are one such system. Unfortunately, it’s tough to foresee a water damage emergency. It might be the middle of the night when a pipe in the ceiling bursts.

The resulting damage will spread and worsen before you wake up in the morning. If you’re lucky enough to notice the problem right when it occurs, call Lap Services immediately for water removal services. We know how most home or business owners struggle with the mess that water damage can leave behind. With one phone call, we offer 24-hour emergency water extraction and drying for any situation.

THREE TYPES OF DRYING SYSTEMS THAT RESTORERS USE.

A big concern for the homeowner is having contaminates carried into areas that were not affected initially.

OPEN DRYING SYSTEM

This is the use of outside air being brought in to reduce the amount of humidity that you have inside or to remove water vapor. The good thing about this approach is that it is always easy to then convert it over to a Closed Drying System should outdoor weather conditions change during the duration of the job.

CLOSED DRYING SYSTEM

The benefits of a Closed Drying System is it allows the Lap Services technician the most control over the drying area and process. With the isolation of the area from the outside or even the rest of a building, it allows for more security measures and allows you to install the necessary dehumidification equipment. You can also use existing HVAC systems to help with this process. If the outdoor humidity level is high, this is also the recommended approach by Lap Services professionals.

COMBINATION DRYING SYSTEM

This approach is best used at the beginning of the job, as this is when the humidity levels indoor are at their highest. Also, you can use the Outdoor Drying Process while you are getting ready to remediate the inside. This means while you are removing any debris and doing initial cleaning.

ATTIC & HOME MOLD

Mold is a common problem in many households. In fact, global studies have found that around a big portion of homes contain Cladosporium molds which are often dark brown or black, others contain penicillium molds which can appear in shades of blue or green. Not only is mold not particularly nice to look at, but it can also cause a wide range of health problems, especially in children with weak immune systems or in adults who suffer from allergies or asthma.

HOW TO PREVENT MOLD FROM ATTIC?

As the saying goes, “prevention is better than cure”, prevention of mold is any day better than the last-minute haste. From repairing your water pipes, roofs, and other water problems and moisture leading problems to insulating and ventilating your attic right is what goes in here.

MINIMAL DIFFERENCE IN TEMPERATURE

Ensure there is minimal difference in temperature from the exterior (outside) and interior (inside the attic) to prevent condensation on the underside of roof sheathing.

AIR SEAL ALL POINTS OF ENTRY

Attic air seal all points of entry such as (bathroom fans and hoses, recessed lighting/ pot lights, use low temperature light bulbs (LED), install or fix weather stripping around attic hatch, seal around holes, gaps, and cracks inside the attic including wiring, plumbing vent pipes, or ducts (in some cases).

CHECK DAMAGE OR BLOCKED VENTILATION

Ensure all rafter ventilation/ baffles are not damaged or blocked with insulation.
